Two to three years ago, when we knew absolutely nothing about buying a home (slightly less than we know now), we met with a lender to find out what our options were. He wanted to go over our finances with us, of course, and was surprised that the only debt we had was our monthly bills - no car payment, no loans, etc. "You don't have any debt! How un-American of you!" he exclaimed. "Well, we're trying to get into some," we told him.We were both born on this content and in this country, but I guess we are now officially Americans.
